Our boots run true-to-size in terms of length. If you commonly wear one particular size boot, most likely that will be our size that works for you. The goal is to strive for 3/8 – 1/2 inch of space between the end of your longest toe and the end of the boot. Due to the shape of our toe box, this length requirement may be less than you’re used to.
Our Free Range™ Original last, gives our boots an anatomical shape. They are more foot shaped and less symmetrical. Most people will experience their toes having enough room, but not too much.
When you lace our boots up, they should wrap snugly around your midfoot. This is important to prevent your foot from shifting or sliding in our boots. If you feel that there is too much room around your heel, but the boot length is okay, you may want to see if a thicker sock works for you.If you are new to a wide toe box, it is reasonable to expect the ball of your foot to widen as your feet relax and adjust to the newfound space. Keep this in mind when determining the fit, and learn more about how your feet may feel during this adaptive process here.If you are one of our barefoot people, our boots are a little different than you’ll be used to. They’re going to probably feel stiff to you, maybe even a little bit tight, but they do break in.Keep in mind that the leather will stretch and form to your foot. What we want from the initial try-on is to be close. And if you are close, you can expect the fit to greatly improve with wear.
Our boots feature a wide toe box which may not be appropriate for those with narrow feet. Although there is some preference involved here, we recommend that you do not have too much room where you foot wants to slide in the boot. The toe box should provide enough room for your toes to lay naturally, without being bent or forced inward. The volume, however, is not overly large. Most people will experience having enough room, but not too much. View our size guide here.
Our boots were designed to be worn with midweight socks, however you may want to wear a thinner or thicker sock to achieve your desired fit. We recommend toe socks for a more natural toe splay. Some alternative options are Tabi Socks, Anatomical Socks, or just socks that have a loose toe area. The main thing we are trying to accomplish is to reduce the compression on the toes that a ‘normal’ sock tends to cause.

There is a break in phase with our boots due to properties of thick, real leather. We recommend wearing our boots in a less intensive, more casual setting during this period. This gives the leather time to form to your foot, and time for your feet to get used to the boots.
We tried to design our boots to offer a good fit for most people. Certainly, they will not be for everyone. It is up to you ultimately to determine if our boots are right for you.
Please be aware of our return policy. You should know very quickly if our boots fit you appropriately. When you begin to ‘break in’ your boots, you should be ultimately satisfied and intent on keeping them.
