Our Free Range™ Original last, gives our boots an anatomical shape. They are more foot shaped and less symmetrical. Most people will experience their toes having enough room, but not too much.
Texarado boots run true to size in length. For lace-up styles like the Bailey, the laces should tighten the boot snugly around your midfoot — secure enough that your foot doesn't shift or slide, but not so tight that you're cutting off circulation. For pull-on styles like the Decatur, the boot should feel close through the instep while leaving your toes room to spread naturally.
If you feel extra room around your heel but the length is right, try a thicker sock before sizing down. Some heel slip is normal and expected in a western boot — that's the leather doing its job. As the full-grain leather molds to the shape of your foot over the first several days, the heel seats in and the slip decreases.
Every Texarado boot is built on our Free Range™ last — shaped around the actual contour of a human foot. The toe box is approximately 3E width, giving your toes room to lay flat and spread naturally without being bent or forced inward. The heel is approximately D width, providing a secure hold where it matters.
The result is roomy — not sloppy. You'll have enough space in the toe box for your toes to lay in a natural position, while the heel and midfoot stay locked in. If you're coming from a conventional boot with a narrow toe box, expect the ball of your foot to widen slightly as your toes relax into the newfound space. That's a feature, not a flaw.
Our boots were designed to be worn with midweight socks. You can adjust the fit thinner or thicker depending on your preference, but the sock you choose matters more than you might think.
We recommend our Wide-Toe Socks for a relaxed fit around your toes. The goal is simple: your socks shouldn't undo what your boots do. A standard sock compresses your toes back together inside a toe box designed to let them spread. A wide-toe sock lets the boot do its job.
